Money is a song influenced by a past relationship, where I found that my partner was very materialistic, which in turn made me realise how different we were as people.
It attempts to highlight love as the true currency of peoples souls, as opposed to the contents of their bank accounts, pushing back the idea of materialism and a materialistic society.
I wrote the rhythm guitar first and came to the lyrics later. They alluded me for a time as I was trying hard not to make it too on the nose. I didn’t want it to be a protest song, telling people that this is how they should feel, I wanted it to be a song where I told them this is how I feel, leaving the audience to infer the rest. The inference being, that this is a universal truth.
I had a rough idea of the arrangement, but as per usual, I took it to the band and they made it better, elevating it to it is now. A bloody banger.
lyrics
Tell me your desires,
And tell me all your lies,
As I’m the one who’s willing to compromise,
You’re having doubts I know,
I see it in your eyes,
But help me baby,
Maybe we can do it if we try,
I know the distance is killer,
But I would travel to be with you,
It’s just bad luck but it’s better,
To give up instead of see it through,
Ooo, what you going to do?
Ooo, I know what I choose.
Honey, I don’t want more,
Money, I just want more,
You and me,
I just want your love,
It may be funny,
But I don’t want more money,
It may be funny,
But I don’t want more money,
I want your love,
Tell me all your fears,
And give me all your tears,
As I’m the one who’s really hurting here,
You’re having doubts I know,
I feel the shift in gears,
But help me baby,
Maybe we can make this disappear,
I know it costs but it’s cheaper,
Than letting go and losing you,
So we’ll have to dig deeper,
If that is what you want to do
Ooo, what you going to do?
Ooo, I know what I choose.
It may be funny,
But I don’t want more money,
It may be funny,
But I don’t want more money,
I want your love,
Honey, I don’t want more,
Money, I just want more,
You and me,
I just want your love,
It may be funny,
But I don’t want more money,
It may be funny,
But I don’t want more money,
I want your love,
